Nursing bras

Most bras can be used for nursing. But a nursing bra that you can open with one hand can be very useful. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't use underwire or stiff bras, or bras that are too tight. They can lead to blocked milk ducts and mastitis.
  • Pulling a regular bra up or down to expose your nipple is fine. Be careful, however, to avoid putting localized pressure on your breast as this can lead to mastitis.
  • If you are buying nursing bras while you are pregnant (yes, they do make great maternity bras), don't buy too many. Your breasts will enlarge further when your milk comes in, and you'll need bigger bras.
