Mommy needs only one hand to nurse the baby. She can read the
older children books, play board games with them, etc. while
nursing the baby. Also, since there's no need to waste time
sterilizing bottles, mixing and heating formula, everyone will
have more time and energy for the older kids (if you think you
could prop a bottle and have both hands free with a bottle-fed
baby, see psychological benefits of breastfeeding and how
to bottle-feed for best results, and remember: never
prop a
baby with a bottle!
A breastfed baby gets sick a lot less, so the adults won't
have to waste so much time and energy tending to a sick, needy
baby. More time will be left for the older kids. And everyone will
be happier, so the time spent with the older kids will be more fun
too.
Since a breastfed baby is very portable (just pack a diaper;
no need to worry about running out of formula if your outing lasts
longer than planned, and no need to worry about dropping the
bottle in mud and worrying about how to sanitize the nipple), you
can go to picnics, ball games, plays, camping, fishing, or
whatever your child likes doing. No more unhappy older child
because you couldn't go to her/his special day because of the
baby!
