Word Of Mouth
By Michael T Powers
Our three year old has been busy entertaining his mommy and
daddy again.....
I had a customer at our house recently whom I was helping
put together a video about her husband's life. After about
4-5 hours in my video studio in the basement, she asked to
use the rest room before she went home. She went upstairs
and asked where the bathroom was, and was greeted by our
helpful three year old. Caleb showed her where the
facilities were and came running excitedly out to Kristi, my
wife, in the living room.
"MOMMY! I SHOWED DADDY'S PRISONER WHERE OUR BATHROOM
WAS!"
Kristi just about choked on what she was eating.... She
glanced nervously at the bathroom door..... "Daddy's
prisoner? You mean the lady daddy is helping?"
"YEAH! DADDY'S PRISONER!"
"Caleb, she's not a prisoner."
"BUT THAT IS WHAT YOU AND DADDY CALL HER!"
I was still downstairs and didn't realize that my boy was
scaring my business away.
In the mean time, this poor unfortunate soul is sitting in
our bathroom, which is only a couple of feet from our loud
and excited three year old, thinking, "Please Lord, let me
get out of this house alive!" I can imagine her trying the
window latches in the bathroom to see if there was another
way out of the house....
Finally, Kristi caught on to what Caleb was getting
at.....
"You mean daddy's customer! Right?"
All the while praying that she was on the right track,
before this frantic person runs screaming and yelling out of
our house, half-dressed, and dragging a roll of toilet paper
behind her! (Not the best form of advertising for my growing
business.....)
"YEAH THAT'S IT! DADDY'S CUSTOMER!"
Cindy, as we have been fortunate enough to get to know her
better since then, walked out of the bathroom and left our
house without showing so much as a hint of fear. But we
found out that she heard, and was amused by, the whole
thing......
She's on my e-mail list now, and she even scheduled another
appointment to come back and finish her video project.
I guess word of mouth is the best form of advertising, even
if the words come from you three year old........
