Have Your Birthday Cake

And eat it, too!

Celebrating a birthday but on a diet? You can indulge in a birthday treat and
still stay on your good eating plan.

Purchase a commercial cake mix. To save calories and fat grams, make these
substitutions: Use egg substitutes for the eggs. Substitute an equal measure
of applesauce for the oil.

Instead of icing (which is generally just equal parts of shortening and sugar),
top with fresh fruit and fat-free whipped topping. Or pour a dribble of fat-free
chocolate sauce over the top.
