Kids have separation anxiety when dropping them at daycare or school? here's some helpful tips... Don't sneak off! If a parent "disappears", the child learns not to trust the parent and it makes the separation worse! Be matter of fact about leaving. Be brave, tell your child you must leave, then do it. Establish a ritual. My child and I have a pat routine. I give them a big hug and a kiss, I say, I love you, I'll see you after school. He says, I love you too, kisses me on the cheek, waves and leaves. It is familiar and comfy to him. Make sure your kids get enough sleep! This makes a difference. Preschoolers need about 11 hours, Kinder and 1st grade about 8-12 hours and young grade school kids need 8-10 hours. Know the crying will stop! Most crying episodes end shortly after you leave, and once you establish a solid routine, about 2 weeks and most kids will be set. Each weekday we will publish a family friendly tip.
