Today's Tip:
Herb Or Spice? Although these terms are commonly used for one another, there are actually some basic differences. -Herbs are described as the leaves of plants (not trees or scrubs) used for flavoring foods. They are generally available fresh or dried. Basil, parsley, mint, oregano, and thyme are popular examples of herbs. -The term spice encompasses the rest of the seasonings derived from plants. They include seeds (cumin), buds (clove), bark (cinnamon), fruit (vanilla), roots (ginger), stems (chive), and berries (peppercorn). Spices are almost always sold in the dried form. -To further complicate things, some plants produce both herbs and spices. For example, the coriander plant is harvested for its seeds (coriander) and its leaves (cilantro). Each weekday we will publish a family friendly tip.
