Denim Journal with Suede Bookmark Turn a boring composition notebook into a journal, an address book or a scrapbook.
You need: Instructions: Lay out denim with the right side down. Open up the composition book and place it face down on top of the denim. Draw a line around the book. Remove the book and cut your fabric approximately 1" bigger than the line you drew. Pour about 1 cup of Linit Liquid Starch into a disposable bowl. Ball up the denim and place it in the starch. Make sure fabric is completely saturated. Wring out some of the liquid but leave the fabric fairly wet. Smooth the fabric out, right side down, on wax paper. Lay 1 yard of suede lace down the middle of the fabric. Open up the composition notebook and place it, face up, on the fabric. The suede lace should run along the spine of the book with excess at both ends. The fabric will stick to the book. Close it, smoothing out the fabric. Let it dry overnight. Cover may warp a little but should flatten when dry. If not, place a few books on top until it is flat again. Print Pattern for Peace Fingers and Pattern for Flowers. Cut foam pieces using pattern as a guide. Glue to cover. The suede lacing will be sticking out of the top and the bottom of your journal. The end that sticks out of the top will be the book mark. Pull this down between the pages of the book so it is sticking out the bottom. Lace 3 beads on each end. Trim lace close to beads. ©1999-2000 MakingFriends.com, Inc.
