712-548-5522 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Le Mars, Iowa (January 30, 2009) – Wells’ Dairy, Inc., today expands its voluntary recall of its Blue Bunny Personals® Bunny Tracks® 8 fl oz. sold at retail and foodservice levels to include Lot Number 80030 “Best Used By” date 11/17/2009. The lot number can be found printed on the side of the carton. The affected product was shipped to the following states: Virginia, Iowa, Ohio, Nebraska, Washington, Tennessee, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Oregon. This product contains peanuts from the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), which is the focus of an ongoing Salmonella investigation. Yesterday as a precaution Wells’ Dairy voluntarily recalled one lot of Blue Bunny Personals Bunny Tracks (80024 D19114 “Best Used By” date 09/11/09) and all Blue Bunny No Sugar Added Reduced Fat Bunny Tracks ice cream sold at retail and foodservice levels in 1.75 quart plastic containers with all codes displaying “Best Used By” dates prior to January 29, 2010. Best used by date is located on the bottom of the carton. Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. About Salmonella Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
