Breastfeeding - Bottle Feeding Toys

It bothers me very much that there are tons of dolls and toys out there for our children to play with that feature bottle-fed babies. Many of us find it disturbing that our children play with violent toys or toys that promote male superiority/female submission. I agree with these concerns--there is no doubt that role-playing is a major way in which our children learn how to behave and how to think. Bottle-feeding toys are therefore just as disturbing as those other objectionable toys. How do we expect our children to grow up into adults who are comfortable with breastfeeding if we let them grow up in a bottle-feeding world?

Here are some examples of bottle-feeding toys from toy stores and catalogs:

  • Toys R Us in Emeryville, CA:
    Doll sets with bottles: 20
    Bottles for dolls: 14
    Breastfeeding dolls: 0
  • Lillian Vernon Catalog:
