Thanksgiving Thoughts - From Dad's Point of View

by Brian Jacob Rogers

I have been sitting here thinking about the upcoming holidays and a few thoughts occurred to me.

Here we are, just a few weeks from Thanksgiving. One of the few holidays where family gets together. I started thinking about the past year and realized that I have alot to be thankful for. I have 2 beautiful and healthy girls, I have a job that I enjoy, and I have my health. I'm not sure about anyone else but that is alot to be thankful for. It also dawned on me that I don't let people know just how thankful I am. Sure, I say thank you to family and friends, but, I haven't let them know that I am very thankful that they are a part of my life. I found myself getting nostalgic today. I took out the tape of my youngest daughter being born and watched it. And yes, as I watched it I cried. :-) I then started watching tapes of the girls playing and it made me realize even more, just how lucky I am.

I also sat here looking at family pictures and again, I am thankful. There have been times when it seemed like everything was falling in on me and my family has always been there. To be honest, they were there at times when I wouldn't have been there for me. But, that is the way that family is, always there when you need them, and sometimes when you don't. :-)

Remember the first time you held your child? How many of us sat there with tears running down our faces and said thank you? I did and I think all parents have. What a reason to be thankful. I have my daughters this Thanksgiving and after dinner, instead of watching football, we are gonna watch home movies. But, during the dinner, me and the girls each take a second to tell what we are thankful for. For me it is a easy question, I am thankful for my girls. They have made me laugh, cry, learn and pull what is left of my hair out. And I love them even more for that.

In these times where it seems like there is so much anger and hatred around, we need to stay focused on what is important. Our family!! Well, I know this wasn't the typical article but more of me just saying that I am very thankful for my girls. I do want to leave you with a thought. Take the time each day to say "I love you" to your children. At night, take a look at them as they sleep and remember the day they were born. And as always love them.
