Communication is the Key - From Dad's Point of Viewby Brian Jacob Rogers Hi all, I have been sitting here thinking about what to write for this week's article and I keep drawing a blank. Or I should say, I was until about an hour ago. That's when my oldest daughter called. She just wanted to say I love you. As some of you may have figured out, I am the divorced dad of 2 beautiful girls. In some of my previous articles, I have suggested, that you tell your children everyday that you love them, to say thank you so that your children can learn by watching your example. Well today is gonna be a bit different. I have a suggestion to the adults for the adults. I want you to remember 1 little word. The word is communication. Why do I want you to remember that? Its real simple, when we stop communicating, we are not learning. We need to start the communication process with our children while they are young so that when they get older, they will feel comfortable enough to tell us what is bothering them. We have to remember that, although they are children, they have their own point of view, their own ideas. Communication can also help your marriage, if you are married. It can also make it easier to parent when you are divorced. There are times when you don't feel like talking, but if you let anger, frustration and things like that interfere with communication, then you will always lose. If our children can see adults talking, without yelling, they will learn that it is better to talk. And that is what is needed if we want responsible children. In these days of violence, drug use and anger, we need to keep the lines of communication open with our children. Please remember that. I am out of here for now but will make sure my next article is on time. Or Jenny may hunt me down. :-) As always, your feedback is welcome at
