Priorities - From Dad's Point of Viewby Brian Jacob Rogers
After I said I would try to write an article, I hit a blank spot. For the life of me I couldn't think of what to say. So I gave up trying for awhile, and started rough-housing with my daughters. In the midst of our play time, my job tried to call me in. I would be getting double-time if I went in for a few hours, now that was tempting. My daughters heard the conversation and asked what time I would be back. I took one look at the sad faces and then it hit me. Money to do things is nice, but QUALITY TIME is a MUST! Being a father means taking care of your responsibilities (same for all the hard working mothers), it means taking the time to have fun with your children, and most importantly, it means taking time to just be dad. In this world where everyone is striving for the dollar, our children just want US. Think back dad's to the very first day that you saw your baby, and remember how amazed you were. I think back and still can remember sitting there and crying over the miracle. Or remember the first time you child says "I love you", to this day when my girls say I love you, it makes me realize that I may want to give them the world, but they want their dad. I am not saying I am the perfect father by no means. I make mistakes, we all will, we are human. But we must set the example for our children. This isn't just for the dads who are at home with the mom and children, this is also for the divorced dad's. We need to start setting our priorities to where they need to be set. The first and only priority we should have should be our families! I guess what I am trying to convey, is the fact that, as fathers, we need to be there. If you are divorced, same thing. You may not always get along with the ex-wife, but you share a human life you helped bring into this world. You both must get along enough to raise that child and give that child the love that will see them thru life's journeys. The last thought I will leave you with after all the rambling: When the children are asleep tonight, take a second and go in and look on them. That is your future. If we don't raise our blessing up right, our future is in trouble. That's just my opinion :-) we welcome yours. Have a great day, Brian
