Blessings in Disguise - From Dad's Point of View

by Tim Taliaferro

As a stay at home/ disabled american house husband, sometimes it feels like things are just more than I can possibly stand any longer. Hey, I will be the first one to admit, when I had to assume the role of house husband and not a major part of the bread winning society any longer it hurt. I will also admit that I was one very angry person with God.

How could he do such a thing to me, it was more than I could bear. This following little story tells it so well, if I didn't know better I would say someone had been making a story of my life. Read this little story and I think you will see what I mean.

The young man was at the end of his rope. Seeing no way out he dropped to his knees in prayer.
" Lord, I can't go on," he said, I have to heavy a cross to bear."
The Lord replied " My son, if you can't bear its weight just place your cross inside this room then open that other door and pick out any cross you wish."
The man was filled with relief.
" Thank you Lord" He sighed and did as he was told.
Upon entering the other door, he saw many crosses. Some so large the tops weren't visible. Then he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall.
" I'd like that one Lord" he whispered.
And the Lord replied, "My son that is the cross you just brought in."

I was the orneriest person in the world until I realized that by God allowing (Note I did not say "by God making me disabled") by God allowing my disability, He gave me a great gift, by allowing me to have a fantastic relationship with my kids. Many fathers today don't get that chance. Thank God I received that blessing. I know there have to be other men out there like me. If you are and you are reading this, I hope that my experience and this story will help you to realize that when we allow Him to, God will turn our bad thing into something good.

Till next time, Tim Taliaferro
