The Grass is Always Greener...or...Mom? Can We Eat At the Neighbor's House?

By Cheryl Demas

My daughters turn up their noses at any food I serve them that doesn't come with a toy or have a cartoon character on the box.

It's so frustrating, I think I've come up with something they'll like, buy all the ingredients, cook a special dinner and then they won't even give it a taste.

If they would taste it and then reject it, I could take that as a critique of my cooking. But they won't even taste anything new, in our house that is. Send them to a neighbor's house and they turn into Julia Child.

The other day my neighbor said she was grilling seafood and invited the girls over for dinner. I kind of smirked and said, "Sure, but I doubt if they'll eat much more than a piece of white bread. They aren't very adventurous when it comes to food."

"Well," she smirked back at me, "we'll see."

Later, when the girls got home, they started to tell me about their dinner.

"Right, I know what was served, but tell me, what did you actually eat?" I said.

"Well, we started with Salmon Stuffed Tomatoes, followed by Grilled Tuna Steaks. They were so good! You should try them Mom."

All I could say was, "Who are you and what have you done with my children?"

I guess it's the old "the grass is always greener" story. For some reason, anything home grown doesn't seem as intriguing and wonderful as what's going on somewhere else. Are you doing this with your home business too?

Do you look at other Work At Home Moms, and think "I wish my business was like that."? Does it seem like everyone else is doing great things? Do you look at other sites and businesses with envy?

Remember that your business reflects you and your personality. You really wouldn't want it to be like someone else's would you? How boring that would be, if we were all alike. Take pride in your uniqueness, your special style and way of doing things. You will find a way to be successful, and you can be proud that you did it in your own way.

It might be tuna casserole instead of grilled tuna steaks, but one is not necessarily better than the other. The important thing is, it's your tuna casserole, and that's what makes it special.
