Trouble In Toyland

By Cheryl Demas

Just when we thought it was safe to back to the toy store ...

Remember the uproar a few years ago when Barbie said, "Math is hard!"? Well that's nothing compared to what dolls are saying now.

You probably read about the Georgia woman who filed an obscenity complaint when a talking Austin Powers doll told her son a thing or two. Apparently she wasn't ready or willing to discuss the Birds and Bees at Toys R Us.

Now there are things I don't want my kids hearing on the streets or in the stores, but when they do hear things that confuse them, I'm glad that I'm here to discuss it with them. That's one of the reasons I love working at home. I'm here to talk with my kids when they have questions.

For example, the other day I had to explain to my daughter that Working Mother Barbie is neither working nor a mother (SIGMA) no one with those hips could have possibly given birth, and no woman would go to work with a skirt that short, unless she was in a really old profession, if you know what I mean.

Besides, Working Mother Barbie's idea of staying close to her kids is carrying a cell phone. Hardly the model of motherhood I want for my girls.

I just don't plan on pressing charges.
