When You're Young at Heart By Catie I recently began weekly Yoga classes with my friend Lisa. It is a terrific way to start the week relaxed and refreshed. We tend, however, to spend a good deal of time after class shooting the breeze and sharing experiences of motherhood and wifehood. It is one time during the week when neither of us has a little boy tugging on our legs needing attention, and we are each able to complete an intelligible sentence without interruption. This past week, true to form, we were in the parking lot outside the Yoga school talking, but we neglected to notice that not only had every other car in the parking lot left, but all the businesses in the strip mall had closed, and the parking lot lights had been shut off. Only when a cruiser pulled up behind Lisa, did we get a clue of exactly how long we had overstayed our welcome. We both broke into uncontrollable laughter; here we are two upstanding, organized moms being stopped for loitering in a parking lot. In between bouts of laughter, we managed to explain that we really don't get out much and were comparing potty training stories. The officer laughed and suggested we go to a local tavern for a drink rather than stand in a dark parking lot. I think he got as much of a laugh out of two "renegade" moms in need of adult conversation as we did. I think the last time I was approached by the police for being where I shouldn't was in high school. In all probability, I was also doing what I was not supposed to either! This time around, however, I don't mind it at all. It was a nice reminder that I don't have to be a teenager to enjoy myself and that just because I am a mom with a day planner, doesn't mean that I have outlived my wild and free days. The only pigeonholes around my life are those I put on myself. - Catie
