Smiles Collage Activity

Brush My Teeth
Yellow construction paper teeth, white paint and toothbrushes. Have children brush the yellow teeth with the white paint. Frame the completed
smiles with red construction paper lips!

Smiles Collage

  1. Cut out magazine pictures of smiles. (Not whole faces, just mouths – any kind – human or animal!)
  2. Glue on paper.

Sensory
Cut the bottoms off of large plastic soda bottles and turn them upside down – they look like teeth! You can secure a dozen or so together. Spray them with shaving creme and give the kids toothbrushes to brush the teeth clean.

Teeth Collage
Make a “good food” for their teeth collage out of pictures from magazines. They might even want to hang them on their own refrigerator to remind them which foods are healthy.
crafts
Jumbo Toothbrush
Help children make oversized toothbrushes. Use as a bulletin board titled “Healthy Habits”.
Fold a 9×12 piece of white construction paper in half. Draw lines and have children cut up the lines and make bristles for your tooth brush. Make a brush handle out of colored const. paper. Put child’s name on the handle. Glue brush onto handle.

Also a science project to reinforce brushing. Put a egg in vinegar for a couple of days, the vinegar will eat off the shell (tooth enamel).

Dental Games and Activities

Science Fun
Scrounge some small white ceramic tiles (from construction sites, tile stores, parents who are remodeling etc). Provide children with a variety of food products to smear on the tiles such as: jelly, ketchup, syrup, peanut butter etc, have children brush the teeth with toothbrushes and real toothpaste. Which tiles are stained?

Math
Graph favorite toothpaste flavors – mint, bubble gum or fruit?

At The Dentist
Set up a pretend dentist office (call your dentist for donations!)

Dentist Office – Where else?!

“Eggs”tra Fun Experiment
One thing you can do when doing dental health is to hard boil an egg ahead of time. Then bring in some dark soda.

  1. Place the egg in the soda for a day.
  2. Then the next day talk about why we should keep our teeth clean and how we can keep them clean. Then take the egg out. It is discolored, yellow, looks like plaque.
  3. Take a toothbrush with a little tooth paste, and brush it off.
  4. It REALLY comes off. They love it.

Make sure they each get a turn.

Brushing Teeth Activity
Brushing Teeth Activity

Brushing Teeth
When talking about teeth, try this idea.

  1. Cut out a large tooth shape from yellow construction paper for each child.
  2. Have the children pretend they are brushing this dirty yellow tooth by painting with white paint on toothbrushes
  3. Brush the tooth!

Cute idea that the children really enjoy!

Teeth Discussion
You could discuss the difference between baby teeth and permanent teeth.
Discuss how it feels to lose a tooth. Other children might be able to tell you about caring for their teeth, you can emphasize:
*Teeth should be brushed in the morning and before bed
*Teeth should be brushed after meals when you can
*Flossing is important
*Sweet and sticky foods need to be rinsed or brushed off as soon as possible

Can the children tell you the kinds of foods that are good for their teeth?
What are good breakfast foods?
What are good snacks?

songs
Little Johnny
Little Johnny had a toothbrush
Left it hanging on the wall
And it hung there and hung there
For he used it not at all
Til one day at the table
He began to scream and cry
Mother dear I have a toothache
Mother dear, I think I’ll die
So she took him to the dentist
But the dentist shook his head
“It’s too late for Little Johnny
“He should have brushed his teeth.”
