10 Riding Toys for 2-Year-Olds

Riding toys for 2-year-olds encourage the development of many gross motor skills, including balance, coordination, and spacial awareness. Such toys also provide an opportunity for exercise, exploration, and independent play. Keep in mind that children do no all develop their gross motor skills at the same rate, and that’s okay. We selected toys that are rated 2 and up—that can be played with for years to come. Still, consider the age and skills of each child when selecting an appropriate toy. You also take a look at our recommended riding toys for 1-year-olds some of which could also work for 2-year-olds.

Riding toys promote independence in 2-year-olds. Children at this age can learn to get on and off the toy by themselves. Most of the time riding toys are pushed or steered by the child, giving control to the toddler. As your toddler starts to become more independent, always keep safety in mind. Supervise your child while riding. Encourage them to wear a helmet and stay out of the street. Good safety habits start young.
